Wilsonville City Council approves zone map amendment for Brenchley Estates development

WILSONVILLE, Ore. -- The Wilsonville City Council voted 5-0 on May 7 to approve a Zone Map Amendment for Brenchley Estates North, which allows development of 288 apartment units in Phase 1 and 25 single family homes and 46 age-restricted homes for seniors in Phase 2. This approval reduced the housing density by 39 units for a total of 359 residential units.

“The Council understands the importance of this residential development and our partnership with the developer, Holland Partner Group,” said Mayor Tim Knapp. “These new residential living opportunities will have a positive impact on our community by providing more housing options for Wilsonville workers who live elsewhere and desire a shorter commute. Additionally, retail and service businesses in the nearby Town Center area will benefit from increased patronage by new residents.”

'Stamp Out Hunger' today

PORTLAND, Ore. – If you’re feeling charitable, you can help "stamp out hunger" on Saturday.

“Stamp Out Hunger” is the annual food drive by the Oregon Food Bank and Oregon State Association of Letter Carriers. Postal carriers in Oregon and southwest Washington delivered 1.5 million yellow, biodegradable bags to homes this week.

If you would like to donate, simply fill the bag with non-perishable food – like canned soups, cereal and pasta – and leave it outside for your mail carrier. Items like peanut butter and tuna fish are in high demand for kids, since schools and food pantries need help with their summer lunch programs.

“Nobody raises more food in one day than letter carriers do across the country  by l,” said Kevin Card, the president of the Oregon State Association of Letter Carriers. “It's that one time we can work with our customers to do something really incredible.”

The drive can bring in two million pounds of food for Oregon and southwest Washington; however, donations were down by 18 percent last year. Organizers do not know the reason.

The City is taking applications for the Development Review Board

The City of Wilsonville is accepting applications for one vacancy on the Development Review Board. The deadline to submit an application is Wed. June 6 at 4:30 p.m.

The main purpose of the Development Review Board is to render decisions regarding land divisions, planned development, site level review of specific development proposals, design review applications, street naming and vacations, zoning variances, conditional use permits and quasi-judicial amendments to the Comprehensive Plan designations or zoning. To a large degree, the decisions of the Development Review Board determine how the city will look. Decisions of the Development Review Board are usually binding, but may be appealed to the City Council.

The Development Review Board consists of two five-member panels, each of which is empowered to review and take quasi-judicial action on land-use applications. When the city receives a land-use application, it is assigned to one of the two panels, which then conducts hearings and renders decisions on all aspects of that application. However, members of one panel may substitute for members of the other panel, if necessary, to ensure a quorum at all meetings.

The City Council deferred until May 21 a decision on a new monthly stipend of $375 for Councilors that will go into effect Jan. 1, 2013. City Council members can also be reimbursed for business expenses they incur while performing Councilor duties on behalf of the City. Each Council member can select both the stipend and health coverage, waive the stipend and elect the health coverage, or elect the stipend and waive the health coverage.
