City will host a blood drive March 23

The city of Wilsonville is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive at the City Hall Council Chambers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23.

To schedule a donation time, e-mail Bryce Frazell or call him at 503-570-1512.

You can also schedule a donation time online. Click on the top right "Make a Blood Donation Appointment." Enter the zip code to locate our drive at City Hall; then select "Click here to schedule an appointment to donate". First time users will need to select "Create A Profile" (there are 8 required fields).

After your profile is complete you will need to enter our sponsor code: wilsonvillech and then proceed to select your time. The good thing is that you only need to complete your profile once, so for upcoming drives your information is already complete.

Find out tonight who will be crowned Mr. Wildcat

Eight Wilsonville High School boys will battle it out at 7:30 p.m. March 17 to be crowned Mr. Wildcat. 

The show is always a hilarious event and kicks off the school's season of fund-raising for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. 

Come out and enjoy a great show. It will be in the auditorium this year. Admission is $3. 

Be sure to make your reservations for a community garden plot

The City of Wilsonville offers community garden plots to its residents and registration for those plots begins March 18, with the garden opening after the soil is dry enough for tilling.

Registrations are accepted at the Community Center but must be done in person so you can select your plot. The garden has in-ground plots, raised beds, on-site water, a compost area and is protected by a deer fence.

The garden is located down Schroeder Way just off Wilsonville Road.

Don't forget Saturday's prescription drug turn-in event

In case you forgot, Wilsonville residents can get rid of those unwanted and expired medications from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 13 at the City's Public Works building.

Items to bring to the collection site are expired or unwanted prescription medications, unneeded over the counter medicines, drugs that didn't work or are no longer needed, medicine from deceased family members, and unknown tablets and capsules.

Wilsonville Library hosts free discussion about technology

Event (“Digital Dewey”) part of the Dewey Talks program series

How has technology evolved from the Lewis and Clark Expedition to the modern library?  What are the driving forces behind these changes and how have we gained from them?

This is the focus of the film and talk presentation with Librarian and Information Science Specialist, and self-proclaimed “Halfbright Scholar”, Greg Martin on Wednesday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wilsonville Public Library, 8200 SW Wilsonville Rd., Wilsonville, OR.  This program is hosted and sponsored by the Wilsonville Public Library.

Martin has an undergraduate degree from The University of California at Berkeley and Masters Degree in Information Science.

You've still got time to donate to the rummage sale

Today and tomorrow are the last days you can donate to the 2010 Wilsonville Community Rummage Sale.

From 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, you can drop off donations at the Grace Chapel Worship Center (9600 SW Boeckman Road in Wilsonville).
 
The actual rummage sale will be held from 5-8 p.m. March 12 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 13.
 
Items accepted are clothing, furniture, toys, books, household, holiday, crafts, electronics, tools, etc. Be sure to have the donations in good, sellable condition.
 
Items not accepted are mattresses, car seats or any broken or damaged item.

Group hoping to save Japanese class at Wilsonville High School

In case you haven't heard, there are talks at Wilsonville High School of cutting the Japanese program because of the declining numbers of those who register for the class.

This year is in jeopardy because the class needs a total of 15 new students in the Japanse program to keep this program alive. So to boost interest, there is a group that will hold a Japanese festival from 6-9 p.m. March 15 at Inza Wood Middle School.

There will be karaoke, video game Dance Dance Revolution, a costume contest, a cake walk, a Katakana name booth, a fish scoop game, a Japanese food cafe and food booth, a music booth, a movie room, an anime and manga booth and even a lolita booth. Admission is free.

Get a Jamba Juice in Wilsonville and help out a good cause

Take in a poster (found at the Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce Office) to the Wilsonville Jamba Juice on the first Friday of every month (January-June) between 4-8 p.m. and Jamba Juice will donate 20 percent of your purchase towards the Wilsonville Relay for Life event that is raising money to cure cancer.

Les Schwab's hosts cat food drive March 13 through April 2

Nine west-side Les Schwab Tire Centers will be accepting donations of cat food and litter to help replenish the empty shelves of the Cat Adoption Team’s Cat Food Bank. Over 2500 pounds of cat food was distributed at the February food bank day. Help stock the shelves so no pet cat goes hungry.

In 2009, the Les Schwab Cat Food Drive brought in 1,200 pounds of cat food. The Lake Grove and Wilsonville stores were top producers of donations in 2009.
