Wilsonville makes it to title game, but comes up short

Alex Tam, the highly-touted sports editor of The Wilsonville Spokesman, covered every aspect of the run at the state tournament by the runs by the Wilsonville High School boys and girls basketball teams at the recent state tournament.

The girls fell 50-40 to top-ranked Jefferson in Saturday's title game; the boys team earned a fourth-place finish with 44-19 win against Summit.

Sophomore leads Wilsonville to easy win at Liberty

The eminent Alex Tam of the Wilsonville Spokesman wrote a story about Wilsonville sophomore Grant McNiel and how he's fitting in on the No. 2-ranked Wilsonville boys basketball team.

He recently scored 19 points and grabbed four rebounds in Wilsonville's recent 85-49 win at Liberty. McNiel is a hustler who dives for loose balls and goes all-out during games. Wilsonville coach Chris Roche thinks McNiel is only going to get better, too.

Wilsonville Library hosts free discussion about using and preserving Oregon’s natural resources

Event part of the statewide Conversation Project: A New Chautauqua

Our sense of connection to a place informs our values and approaches to conflict over resource and land use in our communities.  What meanings have Oregonians attached to different places in the state and how have these attachments shaped our desire to both use and preserve our natural resources?

This is the focus of “Your Land, My Land: Using and Preserving Oregon’s Natural resources,” a free conversation with Portland State University professor Veronica Dujon on Mar. 3 from 6-8 p.m.

Sherwood, Wilsonville teams come together for Haiti fund-raiser

There probably aren't too many times these two schools will help each other out on the court, but the Sherwood and Wilsonville high school boys and girls basketball programs will come together Friday.

According to Amanda Miles of The Oregonian, the two programs will meet up for their scheduled game at Wilsonville for "Hoops for Haiti," a fund-raiser for the earthquake-ravaged country.

Sounds like a cool event for both communities. If you're out at the games, snap some photos or videos and send them our way. We'll post them!

No. 3-ranked Wilsonville boys hoops team keeps on rolling

In a battle of two top-10 teams, the No. 3-ranked Wilsonville High School boys hoops team cruised past a tough No. 8-ranked Woodburn team 63-37 on Dec. 22.

Garrett Rudolph, dedicated sports editor at the Woodburn Independent, wrote it was the lack of free throw shooting that did in the Bulldogs

The incomparable Alex Tam, sports editor of the Independent's sister paper in Wilsonville, wrote that the Bulldogs earned the respect of the Wildcats with their play.

Who knows when a new skate park will open in Wilsonville? Nobody

In a story by Patrick Johnson of The Wilsonville Spokesman, a bunch of skaters didn't get their Christmas wish recently.

For awhile now, skateboarders in Wilsonville have wanted a new -- and bigger -- spot to grind, skate and perform tricks. At a recent city council meeting, skaters thought the city might come through with a new spot, but it didn't happen.

Looks like skaters might have to stay put for awhile.

Wilsonville athlete signs on to play college lacrosse

In a story by the highly-regarded Alex Tam of The Wilsonville Spokesman, it seems that a Wilsonville High School student will be taking his lacrosse skills to the next level.

Blake Harlow recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo. It's an NCAA Division II school.

Harlow was one of Wilsonville's team captains last year when he earned all-state honorable mention accolades for his defense.

Can Wilsonville fare even better this year?

The esteemed Alex Tam of The Wilsonville Spokesman writes a story about how the Wilsonville High School boys basketball team will try to regain the magic of last season.

The Wildcats won 17 games in a row at one point last year and went on to claim a third-place finish in the Class 5A state tournament.

Wilsonville returns three starters from last year's squad, so the Wildcats seem to have a bunch of experience. One of the starters who graduated, Jon Adrian, is playing over at George Fox University, a Division III school in nearby Newberg.
