Several pedestrians hit by cars during holiday weekend | News

Portland Police are investigating five car accidents involving pedestrians in the last few days.

In the last one, a woman died at the scene. A male pedestrian was taken to the hospital in the evening on Nov. 1. Both have been reported as being hit by the same Chevy Impala.

KATU reporter Valerie Hurst was out at SE 80th and Foster Road in Portland where one of the accidents occurred.

"They hit the side of the car, it looked like she hit head on, so she must have died instantly, you know, on impact," said a witness to the accident.

The major crash team has tried to reconstruct how the accident happened.

In the other pedestrian crashes, one closed Highway 217 for two hours on Nov. 1. Deputies say the man had been walking south-bound on the shoulder of the highway when he stepped out on to the highway and was struck. He was taken to Oregon Health Sciences University and may not survive.

On Oct. 30, a pedestrian was hit trying to cross I-5 in Wilsonville and on Oct. 31, a man was hit on Highway 99E in Aurora.
